Customizing the SharePoint 2010 search system

The SharePoint search system is highly customizable even for people with no programming skills. This workshop takes you step by step through the process of defining user requirements, customizing navigation, creating and using managed metadata, customizing the search box, creating custom search pages, and customizing the search results item summary.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
At the end of the seminar, you should be able to:
- Determine search system requirements for a specific business process;
- Add and remove items from the Top Link Bar and Quick Launch sidebar;
- How SharePoint stores people and content metadata;
- How to create, import, edit, and use topic hierarchies and controlled vocabularies;
- Create and use custom metadata elements in lists, libraries, navigation, document sets, and search;
- How to create and use scopes to allow users to target their searches to specific content;
- How to add properties to the Advanced Search page;
- How to use SharePoint Designer to change the search results page format and metadata in the search summary;
- How to test the behavior and measure the effectiveness of your custom search solution.

COST
The workshop fee is $1,200 per person for members of the Society of Knowledge Base Publishers, $1,450 per person for nonmembers. The fee includes slides and electronic handouts relevant to the session topic.
